Default Idle Issue

When I start my bike up, sometimes it idles kinda high like around 2k then as it warms up maybe 2.5k - 3k. I turn it off and on a couple of times and then the idle goes back to normal and there is no problem. Any suggestion to what the problem is?

If you can tell us what bike it is, that may help with the diagnosis. Certain bikes have commom issues. If its fuel injected, the suggestions to look at will be very different than if its a carbed bike.

But, the bike should idle high when you first start it and gradually increase, then it will take a minute or two for the rpms to go back down to 1200 or so. But if your saying the rpms never return to normal, then there is an issue.

2000 -2200 sounds about right for initial startup. Should idle back down to ~1200 once warm though.

The bike is an 02 cbr954. The rpms do return to normal but since this is my first bike the fact that it didn't go back to normal as soon as it usually does just threw up a red flag. I'll keep an eye on it and try and give a little more information if it does it again. Thanks all.
