I need help, burning oil
Alright so my 92 cbr 600f2 started putting out blue smoke out of the exhaust yesterday. I checked the oil and it was low, like really low. I added oil and everything is fine. It drives and sounds fine but the smoke is still there. My question is do I have to drop the engine out and take it apart to see if the seals or piston rings are bad or is there something else it could be or that I could check? There are no visible leaks on the outside of the engine so it's internal for sure, blue smoke too. Also I have the service manual and have a good mechanical skills so how hard is it to take the engine down and see what is going on? And if it's the seals how hard are they to replace?

RE: I need help, burning oil
Don't I have to take it somewhere to have the compression check? Also, if I'm burning oil which I am at an alarming rate, wouldn't it just be easier to take it down and look at it? My buddy works as a bike mechanic and can do it without a problem. Does it have to be a piston ring or can I hope that it is another gasket that is bad?

Pull the spark plugs 1 at a time and see which is covered in oil, and go from there. A compression check gauge is a gauge with a long tube that screws into the spark plug hole, (without plug out of course) and then turn the motor over on the starter, hope this helps[&:]

RE: I need help, burning oil
Well I found out today that the piston rings are bad. I am not mechanically inclined to do the job myself and the price difference between the newer motor and labor would be so close, so I am leaving the motor out. The bright side is I purchased a 1998 CBR600f3 motor with 14000 on it for 700 bucks otd. So when it deceides to warm up here I'll do the swap and post up some pics. Thanks for all the help guys. If anybody needs parts off of a 1992 f2 motor let me know. Not sure what you could use but I'd let it go dirt cheap.
