Default How do I clean the inside of my gas tank?

So I have been working on my bike for a few weeks now, right now I am cleaning out my gas tank and need some help because I'm not sure what to do!

From my limited knowledge of gas tanks here is what I can observe...

The inside of the tank looks like it's in fine shape, has a blue/grey shine to it on the inside which indicates to me it either has a liner or is still good from the factory. Either way I don't need to replace it and so all I need to do is flush the system. There is some dust from the sanding (not a lot since I plugged it up for the most part). There is also some other crap in the tank.

Does just running a few gallons of water through work? I will obviously dry it out for a few days before filling with fuel...but are there any methods to doing this well?

Thanks!

Well you said your best answer right in your own question. Although I'd use gas (not water) put it in there splash it around and dump it out, do that a few times and it should be clean.

If you're not fighting rust or anything, just do a rinse with about a quart of kerosene.
Don't use gasoline. Gasoline's ONLY purpose is as a fuel. It is never to be
regarded as a 'shop supply'. Static electricity will set off the inevitable vapor.
You only need to f*** up once. However many times you got away with it before.
Kerosene has a high enough flash-point, it's relatively safe to handle. No open flames,
cigarettes, etc. Pull the petcock, leave the cap closed, pour it in, block the hole and swish
it around. un-block, keep swishing and drain the kerosene. Pour the kerosene through a
paint-filter, and store for reuse. While the petcock is out, check the strainer/s. Clean it all
up and re-assemble.

Hope this helps, Ern
