The units are sealed to keep people from turning them back and selling a vehicle with less mileage showing than it really has (horse trading). The are hard to get into and harder to put back correctly.

I have had people say you can run them back with a drill. I tested this and I think you would burn the drill out before you got any good results.

 

When I bought my Black Bird the DMV tried to say it had 240,000 miles on it cause the seller accidently put in the tenths on the title. I played Hell getting that fixed. I think they really wanted my first born to correct it. Took something like 3 months to get it fixed. o_0
