Default Homemade carb sync tool issues. (images)

Just purchased my first CBR F3 a few weeks ago. After replacing a few things on it, I'm finally ready to sync the carbs.

I've been messing around here and there chasing down parts for this darn tool. I figured, it's probably worth it to save the $60-100 more Id have to spend for a pre-manufactured tool. Anyways, altogether, I have about $30 into it and I'm happy so far, except that... it doesn't work! A few simple fixes and I'm hoping to finish the job.*

My first mistake was using too much fluid (see image). When I turned the bike on, no. 3 and 4 carbs actually almost sucked the fluid out of the lines.

My second mistake was using ATF fluid which is only 10w from what I understand. Even with the vacuum restrictors I have connected, the fluid seems too light. To fix this, I decided to clean out the ATF and fill the lines with 20w motor oil. The thickness seems fine but it doesn't have enough color to see the actual levels in the line. I thought I would be able to find some oil-based dye to throw in it but it seems that the only stuff available on the market is uv dye which requires a blacklight. My next solution (which I haven't gotten to yet) will be to mix some ATF fluid with the oil, maybe a 1/6 ratio that way I can keep the thickness of the oil.*

The next mistake I made (which was technically my first) was buying 1/4" PVC tubing and 3/16" plastic splicers (see image). In the image, the black 90 degree splicers are 1/4" - needless to say, the tubing fits perfect around them. The white "T" splicers, however, are only 3/16". When slipping the tubing over them, they seem like a snug fit but I was wrong. Once I drained the ATF out of the lines, I noticed them leaking at the manifold where I have them connected to the white "T" splicers. So all along, I may have had a vacuum leak at these spots which may have attributed to the fluid almost being sucked into the intake.

So, I have a few questions.
1.) I cleaned the oil out of the lines today but there is residue in the lines. Will this affect the vacuum or accuracy? If so, how can I clean the residue out of the lines? I don't want to use dish soap because I'm afraid I won't be able to rinse the suds out. Any ideas? What kind of solvents can kill oil bases?

2.) What can I buy to seal the the tubing around the plastic connectors? Would gasket sealant work? Or should I use an adhesive or glue of some sort?

I just did this three days ago. Here's how I did it and it worked like a charm.

1/8" clear pvc hose from home depot 12ft I think (whatever one piece is)
2x 3/16" to 3/16" plastic barbed hose connectors from autozone
smallest bottle they sell of Peak 2 cycle engine oil (it shouldn't hurt your engine if it gets sucked in since thats what it is made to do)

I think people whine too much about the hassle of only have a 2 hose carb synch and having to move hoses. It wasn't really a hassle at all. In total, I spent around $10-$12.

Here's pictures of my setup.

Thanks fellas.
Mike, do you have an idea of what weight the 2 cycle engine oil is you used? I'm getting ready to use 20wt motor oil with a small amount of ATF (10w) just to add some color.

Sorry about the images not showing up on the thread. I was using my Iphone and had to send the pictures to an image hosting site and link there. If you click where the picture is supposed to be, it will link you to my images so you can get an idea of what I'm talking about.

Anyhow, it turns out the white plastic connectors I was using (2nd image) weren't 3/16" but just a little smaller (like 1/32" smaller I think) which would explain not having a good seal. So I disconnected everything and replaced them with the 3/16" which fit alot snugger but just in case, I picked up some all purpose sealant/adhesive made by loctite for use on plastic and rubber, etc. so I'm going to try that out and see if I can't get the connections air tight.

Also, I didn't end up getting the oil residue out of the lines. I just flushed the lines out some more to get what I could out. I couldn't think of a solvent to use to get it all out of the lines.

I'll try to post an update when all said and done. Also, I'm thinking about making a separate thread to explain the process I took to sync the carbs and so forth. Hopefully with more pictures and such. If I end up doing that, I'll link to the thread here.

Thanks again guys.
