Default Carb Sync Tool

Hi all

After reading a number of posts on here about valve adjustments and carby sync I decided to give it a go. I have just finished the valve adjustment and am pretty happy with how it went. I have not done the carb sync yet, and was not able to source a carb sync tool locally under $250 so I decided to make one. After some running around I finally got all the bits together and built it this arvo. I have not tested it yet but in theory I feel it should work ok. It cost me $100 to make.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that isn't going to work. To sync the carbs, you need to be able to measure each of the carburetors independantly from each other and at the same time. The way you've got that connected you'd need to have 4 dial guages hooked up, each one independant of each other. Did you look here ? Please don't kill the messenger.[&:]

I reckon it will work, but it will be a pain to use, give yourself heaps of time and take it slow
if you hav'nt done a cabie balance before, everytime you adjust one, the others go out a little

The more important thing is to get the restriction that a proper orifice provides or else your gage will be useless due to the bouncing of the gage needle. It is far easier to ballance with all four gages at once. For the money, here is the cheap way out. http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...014252/c-10111

Thats the one I've got. The only difference is my gauges are factory mounted, have a couple more bits to make them universal & they are 20+ years old. Mine have also been in a major car accident where they bounced down the road @ 100km (60 mph). They are still accurate although a little bit beaten up. It just shows that gauges are better than mercury rotameters & a wise investment.

The gauge bounces all over the place like timbuc said.
You say a restrictor, what do you mean?

Mine is similar to what you have made

Turn the tap on just enough to get a steady reading,

Use a fine whiteboard marker on the gauge face to get the spot to aim for with each carb throat.

Thanks for the replies, what i have made will work so I don't need to buy another unit as I am using a vacuum gauge. From what Timbuc and punter have said it is the orifice in the gauge that I need to adjust.

Thanks again.
