Default HID lights

I have been looking at HID conversion and am seeing that the 6000K and 8000K are the main ones. Whats the diff? I want the brightest one. I know there are a bunch of other ones too like 4500K and 12000K. Please help and guide me in the right direction.

J

color. To me, the mid temps are easiest to see during the day, 6000k to 8000k. I've heard that certain temps are better on different types of roads surfaces with respect to contrast. Mine is 8000k, it looks a little blue, but still white enough for visibility for cars during the day.

The higher the temp the more blueish the light is. The more blue you go the less usable light you will have. I would go no higher then 6k. Cars like lex's etc.. that come with them stock usually have temps in the range of 4k to 4.5 k.

HID's are great!! Soooo much brighter, you can see everything! It's almost kinda freaky at first cuz they almost have the same effect on white street signs as a blacklight does on white stuff... makes them glow super bright! I've got the 6000K on mine and I'm super happy with them. Got them from hidynamic.com, but I don't think he's doing the auctions or his website anymore. Sucks cuz he was one of the few that had the kits with both Japan made bulbs and ballasts (when looking you want to find bulbs AND ballasts made in either Japan or Germany)

Not the greatest picture overall but decent for showing the lights... it's hard taking a good picture of bright lights!

Anyways, like has been said, the higher the temp rating (K's), the more blue tint you get, but the light output goes down. I got the 6000K cuz it was a nice compromise of a little bit of color without much sacrifice in light output. ALL factory HID's in ANY car from the factory is 4300K, it has the highest light output at 3200 lumens, and it's mainly a pure white light. Next up is 6000K which has a slightly blueish tint and approx 2800 lumens. After that you got 8000K, 10000K, etc, and they get deeper shades of blue and then turn purple, but light output seriously deminishes. That's why I say the 6000K are about the best comprimise for a lil color and lots o' light. I'm VERY happy with mine!!

Jared summed it up nicely there
I have a set of HID boxes for dual lights each light consist of a ballast and an ignitor + the light bulb.
The set i have is made by Bosch and are from a Mercedes. The lamp fittings are for D2S/D2R lights.
If your'e wondering thats the projector lights on the newer BMW's, Mercedes,Lexus,Audis and other high end cars.
I have a lot of work I need to do on my bike so installing a HID kit is low on my priority list
I don't have the bulbs for the kit though but they can be picked up on ebay for a resonable price.
If your'e interested in my set up I would like to get $170 for it shipped in North America

I've got 8500K on my F2 and, I too don't suggest going above 6500K. If I were to do it again, i would go 6500K. The 8500K is definetly brighter than stock but, as already stated, less usable light.
