What do i need to do with my bike for winter storage in a cold climate? Upstate NY? anyone help here.. dont have a heated garage.. paying for storage during winter..

change the oil, fill the tank with fresh gas, and take the battery out. cover it and walk away until spring. and rodent deterrence like those plug-in-the-wall sonic deals. works wonders.

you don't need anything else, but i'm sure someone will come up saying to put some seafoam in or use stabil, or clean the chain, or wash the bike, or flush and fill the coolant and install some antifreeze (which if you did replace the coolant with straight water or something you would have to do), or plug the various orifices, or set the bike up off the ground or roll it over carpet or hooking up a battery tender or something. the fact is these are all things that make you feel better about storing it over winter but have little effect on hibernation. i don't do them and i've stored engines for over a decade with no problems in all their years of operation.

 

What about draining the carbs?

Thanks, ... although im alittle pissed.. went to start the 04 600RR and the thing runs like **** wont idle, is backfiring, and just sounds horrible.. !!! taking it to the honda dealer in a min.. but ****!!!! just wanted to go ride today!.not open my checkbook!

 

I'd agree with the above, but do put some sort of fuel stabilizer in there. I've used stabilizer in the gas I use for all my small engines and after a winter, the engines are easier to start back up.

yes, that's me. i did have to jump the battery to get it to turn over, but that doesn't mean you need to put a tender on it over the winter. a quick 15 minute 4A charge before you install it is all you need.
