Help Troubleshoot 88 CBR600? Maybe an R/R?
New user here.
I just bought an 88 CBR600f for $600 on some local classifieds
She ran great when I took her home, went to go on the first long ride and she started running iffy, then she died. Turned out to be the battery. I jump started her and she started right up. I drove home and shut the bike off. It did not have enough juice to start again.
Sooooo...... I bought a brand new $70 battery. (A battery that already comes with acid and does not require an initial charge) Not too bad considering what I paid for this awesome bike. After installation she started right up again. Went on a long canyon ride only to have the same thing happen!
So I need help from here. I have tried to do some research for myself but regrettably I am a bit of a noob. I was thinking it is the R/R. I can buy one on ebay for $50, but I would like to be sure.
Any tips would be great, thanks guys! If I could figure out how to post a picture, I would show her to you!

It certainly sounds like it could be that, but a quick check with a meter/VOM would confirm it. Check it at the battery terminals and rev it to about 3000 to 4000 RPM. You should get somewhere between 13.5v and 14.5v.
check the r/r plug to see if its fried... when looking at the pins there should be three in a row lined up.. those are the ones leading back to the stator or at least thats hows its designed on my bike (900).. anyway thats what usually overheats...
I have had both of the above mentioned problems happen on my 87. Make sure the plug isn't burned/melted between the R/R and the stator and that the connections are snug and clean. I ended up soldering the wires together on mine because the plug was melted pretty bad.
If that connection is good and the battery still isn't charging while the bike is running it's most likely the R/R that failed.

probably too late
rev and hold it at 7k+. and see if it goes higher.
15.5 sounds a little high, however.
if you start popping bulbs its your rectifier(dont let it get that bad). Also check and clean all your connectors if you have not already.
