help on cbr600 track bike
Hi all,
im new on here and would like some advise if thats possible.
i have a 1997 cbr600 road bike which im converting to a track bike use only, so obviously im trying to lighten the load on the engine as much as possible, i once had another track cbr600 which had a mod done to remove the charging system so it ran totally on the battery and it reved up real nice, unfortunatley i dont know what was removed to do this.
but basically want to do the same remove as much as possible from the engine, also noticed the pipes on the engine area resembe a plate of spagetti, loads there surely some of them can go ?
anyway guys sorry i dont want much !!!!
but any help would be brilliant, the engine is stock and would like to keep it that way as much as possible
thanks again for any help
Kind regards Phill

What your looking for is a total loss ignition setup. Google that term and you should find some more information on it. But basically, you can just remove the stator and the fly wheel, plug the stator cover wire hole, and be done.
Just be sure to check with the track you are riding and what division. Some tracks may require you to have a charging system, especially if your racing in certain classes.
as for the exhaust, Im sure you can find a full race setup that will be lighter.
I would caution how much money you want to put into the bike though. its gettting pretty dated and theres only so much lightening you can do on an F3 since they are pretty heavy. Just get the bike going and have fun with it.

I would personally not run a total loss system on a track bike. You're not going to be that competitive to where you will benefit from that extra few tenths of HP.
Post up some pics of your bike. The f3 is a very popular "race" bike over here in the vintage classes.

Thanks guys,
will do that, also the weight of the flywheel on the end of the crank when removed surely is a big weight gain and allow the crank to spin more freely ?
thanks again all.
