Default HELP! '97 600f3 just died and wont turn over

Hey you guys,I,m new to the site and need some help. The bike was running great, just re jetted and mods to carbs..you'd never know it was just a 600. ran great for weeks, but the other day I was pulling into the garage and it stalled ,I went to start it back up and Nothing !! NA-DA ! the starter relay didn't even click, with fully charged new $120.00 lithium ion battery. I turn the ignition switch on, all the lights come on ,push the starter button and the head light goes completely out, all the other lights including the dash lights aren't effected at all ,they dont even dim. I have the shop manual and have checked everything in the starter system out and everything looks OK. its freaking me out. 55 years old and I've repaired custom vehicles all my life for a living but this thing has got me stumped. Like I said, push the starter button and all that happens is the headlight goes completely out. Does anyone have any idea what it could possibly be. I jumped the relay and turned it over ,but it didn't even fire its just dead.

It might be something as simple as a faulty battery, if the light is dimming and it won’t start, they are the symptoms of a flat battery.

If there is an alarm fitted I’d check the immobiliser (remove the alarm internal battery and disconnect the alarm from the bikes battery), the kill switch is worth looking at if you haven’t checked it already, sometimes they stick.

The light is supposed to go off when the starter relay is engaged. See if there is power coming out of the relay when attempting to crank.

I ran jumper wires directly from battery to unplugged relay, Batt. positive to yellow/red wire terminal and Batt. negative to Green/red wire terminal on relay. as soon as I touched the neg. to grn/red terminal it engaged starter and turned the engine over. This obviously made continuity between the two large terminals. one being from battery and the other to starter. so thats telling me that the relays OK. I just cant get anything out of the handlebar starter button. The side stand , clutch and clutch switch diode safety switches all checked out OK...I,m pulling my frigin hair out on this one. Could it be the ICM ??

Sometimes when I am working on a problem I have to start again.

I own a 900 and I have never worked on a CBR600 but on the diagram for the ‘95 CBR600, possibly the same as your ’97, the supply to the start button comes from the ignition/starter fuse
to the ignition cut out switch, thought ignition cut out switch to the live side of the start button. When the starter button is pushed the circuit runs from the start button to the live side of the start relay

Is the starter fuse okay? Note: the headlight circuit is fed from a different fuse than the starter circuit.

As a first check you could connect the negative side of the start relay directly to the negative terminal of the battery (as you did before). Turn the ignition on and press the start button. If the starter motor turns, and providing the ignition cut out switch is not interrupting the circuit, then the circuit is proved up to the start relay and the problem is on the circuit on the negative side of the start relay.

If no, you could check if the power is getting to the start button, at the connector in the loom closest to the handle bar switches or at the handlebar switches themselves.

Bright, thats a good idea, I'll check that out. Actually one of the last things I did to the bike after the carb work was take the throttle apart at the handle bar to lube the throttle cables. I quickly took that back apart again but I cant see much without disconnecting the throttle cables and thats a bitch cause I gotta loosen them at the carb end, but I should be able to get a test light in there, I,ll let U know. Thanks
