Hello to all,my 1st post! :-)
Yes i have a problem,i just bought this bike with 360 miles on it,2006 cbr600rr,Mint mint showroom cond from a friend,he never rode it and decided to sell it.
Heres the problem, sometimes while riding it will sputter,if i throttle it,it totally cuts out,,,so i let off back to normal and it goes, but still goes in and out. I go as far as i can untill my speed drops to low,(it likes really high gear and very low rpms to not sputter, but will sputter in time) and i pull over shut the bike off wait a sec or two fire it up and fly at 140,100,70mph whatever, could be 60,50,20,2 miles down the road it does it again so i do it all over again ,turn it off and etc,,,,the gas wasnt really stinky but you could tell it was old! When i got it i think it was the 2 or 3rd tank ever in the bike and had 1 bar left on the gauge, filled with 91 and rode it,i have tryied the fi cleaner but didnt help, its only done it once on the street but many many times on the freeway. Make me just want to sell it! It for sure has a problem, I rode to work (63 miles) and i think i had to pull over 9 times to make it home errrr Thanks all

when gas goes bad, it turns to what is commonly called varnish. this varnish will sink to the bottom of the tank, the lines, fuel pump or filters. It is so thick, it cloggs up what ever it build up on, so you end up with a restricted gas flow. Carbed bikes are much worse for the condition, but it can also wreak havoc on fuel injected bike as well. gas can start to go bad in as little as 3 months. so, when the guy only ran a tank a year, the previous years varnish was probably still in the bottom of the tank and it just built up every year. You just happen to be the lucky one that has to deal with his lack of taking care of his bike.
I agree with the comments, I'd replace the plugs and filter. And if you havent already, replace the oil. that is extremely hard on a bike to only have that many miles in that many years unless the guy maintained it really well. But, I'd bet he hasn't. The bike is probably still on the original break in oil. ... not good. replace the oil, then change it again at 1000 miles. then you should be good to start scheduled oil changes.
My guess is your still sucking in varnished gas from the tank every once in a while and thats causing your problem. Run a can of Seafoam fuel system cleaner through it. It will help treat the gas that is in there while cleaning out your system.
