Default Fuel Leak

I went and looked at possibly buying a bike that has been sitting since August... Once we finally got it started gas started pouring out of from what looked like somewhere under the tank (in that area atleast). Does anyone know what I should look at to see if this is a major problem or if its a fairly easy repair? Im new to the bike world so any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks

A fuel leak from a bike that's been sitting is not usually a big problem. Usually a stuck float causing the carburetors to flood. The thing we don't know is how was the bike running before it was put away. What was the condition of the carburetors ? That's hard to say without knowing some history. In talking to a seller, you have to use caution because you never know who you're dealing with.

I hope it's not the one we said to run away from...

LawnEnforcement , its difficult to determine what the problem is without knowing where the gas is coming from ,,the tank? The carb overflow line?
The petcock fuel switch? The fuel line itself? You really need to look closer .
Taking a few pics might help some . That's a dangerous situation with running that bike with fuel leaking out . Be careful . Does it do it only while running , or after you just turn the fuel on? I wouldn't be running that bike till you look closer at where the fuel is coming from . Throw us a bone on that one .

It's unfortunate that you're buying in a sellers market. In the spring, everyone wants to have a bike to ride. More people wanting to ride makes selling a bike better for the sellers. In the fall, at least half the countries riders are having to determine if they want to store the bike another winter, or just get rid of it. That's when you'll find better deals. Just be patient, you will find better deals out there.

I know this fall and even into winter bikes will start dropping in price and thats when I would like to find the bike I want to stick with for a while but for now im just looking for something I can learn on mechanically and just riding in general.

im pretty sure its prolly the carbs being gummed up . .because of the ethanol they put in gas nowdays it gums up so much quicker you can probobly cycle the petcock on and off while is running and ive found that that clears it up most times unless its to far gone then a carb rebuild is in order good luck with it
