Default Front sprocket - is this normal?

I replaced the stocker with an AFAM 15t front sprocket and after installation and proper torquing of the boltthe new sprocket has a very small amount of left-to-right play (maybe 1/16th"). I didn't notice any sort of a spacer or additional washer to bridge the gap between the sprocket nut washer and the edge of the sprocket itself.

Is this normal?

edit - bike is a 2006 F4i

NO...

I have the same sprocket and it fits tight. Something is wrong. Take it off and flip it to see if there is an offset on one side.

I tried that & got the same result. It's as though the spline housingis thinner overall than the stock. I have an AFAM 520 and a 525 and they both do the same thing. Did I miss a spacer or something when I removed the stocker?

I don't recall having a spacer on mine... wait a minute, let me look at something.

Here's an exploded view of the 2006 F4i setup.

# 18 is the sprocket, does this show any missing parts? IF not, then I'd guess you have the wrong sprocket for your bike.

Nope - looks like everything is there that should be there...back to the parts counter. Grrrr.

Thanks, Don.

Better safe than tear up your bike. Can you compare the two sprockets? Find a harbor freight near by and pick up a cheap caliper to meassure with. Or use something like a work bench vise. Set it so the factory sprocket slides through and see if the new one has play.

I do what I can when I can find time to use the PC anymore.

And friends don't let friends damage Hondas.
