Before riding off I noticed that my turning indicator, neutral light, horn and running/brake light did no longer work. Sub fuse 'B' (Br/R) was blown. Replaced the fuse and turning indicators, neutral light, horn and rear running light worked; however, as soon as I activate either the front or rear brake, the fuse blows. First I thought I'd check the switches individually, but the fact that they both cause a blown fuse makes me think there's a short somewhere along the line instead. My question being: Is there a common issue with this short and if so, where could the issue most likely originate from?

Check your bulbs. It could have a filament shorting to ground. Also look at the bulb base and socket itself.

 

Bulb and socket look fine. Took the bulb out to make sure, still blows.

 

You have a short in the system , chassis is ground when you activate either brake lever the hot or positive goes to ground, then it blows the fuse. Need to identify what wire it it is, service manual will identify what color wire it is, same wire goes to both front and rear brake, try to eliminate front from back brake, Check for bare wire to chassis will cause your short. could be brake light switch, not likely, you could take off wires from front or rear brake switch to isolate if its front or rear causing your short.
