Fried Clutch...
So I have my 04 1000rr for exactly one week. Bought it with 0.3 miles on it and rode the proper break-in mileage, varying the throttle, running through all of the gears, etc. I now have around 1035 miles. I was in Central Ohio over Labor Day weekend. Yesterday morning I woke up early to meet some people to ride about 55 miles away, near Southeast Ohio. I rode for about 15 miles or so and then started to get on it through some of the twistier back roads. All of a sudden the clucth starts to slip like I had 50,000 miles on it. It progressively got worse. I stopped, checked for fluid leaks, didn't find anything. I knew I didn't want to end up with no clutch upon arrival at the meeting spot. I rode it back to a buddies house and started making phone calls. Luckily, a good friend of my boss was on his way home from an endurance race near Cleveland, Ohio and I talked to him, he picked me up and took me and the bike back to Cincinnati. Before he loaded the bike into the trailer he started it and tried to ride it. The clucth would barely grab in first gear. He couldn't believe it. The bike is now at a dealership being torn down. This bike has never seen burnouts, holeshots, a trackday (not yet at least), or the 1/4 mile. I have been riding for about 6 years so its not like I'm a newbie to riding a sportbike. The dealership called me this morning to authorize the tear down of the bike for Honda's warranty purposes. I was told if no defects can be found then I am responsible for paying the labor and parts bill. I will be speaking with Honda a little later today regarding that issue. It has to either be clutch fluid pressure issue or plate friction issue. I would think you would have to totally abuse a bike to burn up a clucth in one week or is it even possible? I'll keep everyone posted on the outcome.

So I got my 1000 back about 3 weeks ago. Honda told me there were signs the friction plate compounds were inconsistent. Honda payed for parts but I had to pay $110 worth of labor. I am still working on them to reimburse me for the labor. If they cough up the $110 for labor, I will be an extremly happy camper.
