Default F4i - Swing arm Sliders - is it possible???

Is it possible to put swing arm sliders on an '04 F4i? they don't sell them, can you drill holes in the swing arm and install other ones? Has anyone done this before? thanks in advance

I would think that drilling holes in your swingarm would compromise the strength of your swing arm. Anyone else?

The swingarm wall thickness isn't thick enough to tap the threads and have it hold. I have seen an aluminum plate welded to the botton of the swingarm with the hole for the spools.

Honestly it would depend on HOW you attached the slider to the swingarm if it would be strong enough. You would NOT want to just drill a hole and tap threads into the aluminum because you will most likely have some sort of steel bolt included with the slider. If you put a steel bolt into an aluminum swingarm the bolt could just rip the threads out of the swingarm if it was subjected to much force since the aluminum is softer than the steel. An additional mounting plate would be the better way to go if it was welded or PROPERLY rivited to the swingarm.

I also used this method to add spools to the swingarm on my 97 CBR900. The only difference for me was I purchased the tool w/ several different sized inserts from Harbor Freight for about $14. The inserts included were all standard sizes, no metric inserts were included. I used the 1/4-20 inserts with a 1.5" stainless steel SHCS with a set of spools that I made at work.

i used a helicoil on my swinarm and tapped it for an 8mm spool. wasnt' too bad to do. .. .all you had to do was drill the swinger, tap it and then thread the insert in, break the tang and then put your spool in
