Default f4i high revving at startup

my f4i runs great BUT when i first start it up it idles up really high, around 3500rpm, and gets pretty hot(fan kicks on) for about 10 minutes before it calms down and idles normally. it takes so long that i usually go ahead and start riding during this and i don't even use the throttle to start off because the thing is already revved up so high. is this normal? any ideas? i just got the bike so i dont know if its always done this.

Have you checked your coolant level in the radiator?

haven't thought of that affecting the warm up. just got it from the shop so everything should be topped off but i'll check the coolant this evening to make sure.

Idle speed is controlled by the coolant going through the wax unit. Low coolant=high idle.

Simple enough to check. Check or replace the cap while you're in there. Make sure it holds pressure. If you need to replace it, your local auto parts store has the at half the cost as the dealer. Bring in the old one to match it up.

rode to work this morning. checked it out and the coolant level was fine. the cap is like new and fits nice and tight too. it still ran really hard for a long time though. once its warmed up(around 10mins after startup) it runs perfect and idles at 1k. any other ideas!?!?!?

That's weird. Hm. Did you check the coolant level in both reserve and the radiator?
