Default F4 Valve job

i've an F4 engine with low compression and very little zing. will a "valve job" help me out much and add life/compression back to it. I'd assume this would only go in the top end of the engine, and not messing with the bottom end? The cost of goimg of the bottom end work is more than i can swing...but need something.

Thanks for your comments.

The valves could be causing the problem, but it could be caused by bad piston rings, or a bad head gasket. Do you know for sure its the valves causing the compression?

If you measure the valve lash and it is in spec, then it is either bad rings or head gasket.
