F1 light MAP sensor
so i hope this is in the right section but idk and the vfr boards dont talk to me lol
i was wondering if someone could help educate me on the MAP sensor and what its role is.. my buddies vfr recently started throwing this code and is really tough to start..we took in to the shop and they claimed the pc3 was broke so they unhooked it and now it throws this code and is hard to start..runs fine once its up and running..any help would be great as i am tackling this tomorrow and have no idea where to start

The MAP sensor is used to measure Manifold Absolute Pressure. They call it Absolute pressure because it also detects Atmospheric Pressure. When your engine is running, or even trying to start the is a partial vacuum inside the Intake Manifold. The MAP sensor reads this vacuum and sends that information to the ECM so that it can determine along with inputs from other sensors like the Throttle Position Sensor, engine RPM and others, just how much fuel to inject into the the engine. Many times if the ECM determines that it is getting bad information from a particular component, like the MAP sensor, it will use default values in it's place. These default values will work and usually allow the engine to run, but not at peak efficiency or performance. If you have a bad MAP sensor, it may be causing your bike to be difficult to start up.
