engine trouble shooting
Bought 1993 cbr600 off ebay .great for 300 miles then started playing up.would start in a morning but rattled at first but would dissapear. so i changed plugs . took tank off and pipes renewed petrol pipe. put everthing back . very difficult to start now when it does it sounds terrible. thought i might have put Ht leads back wrong but think they ok. So took carbs off check diaphrams there ok . cleaned the bowls out there ok . used compresser to blow the jets out didnt remove them and havent altered any settings just cleaned.previous owner has fitted k n filter and ridion spark plugs i fitted ngk cr9eh9. wheni took carbs off the cable to the throttle twist grip was working .but to the other side there was an outer cable but no inner cable. there would have been traces of the old cable if it had snapped yet nothing. do u think this is the problem.also checked each plug for spark there is a spark but dosent seem very strong. manual says replace spark unit please can any one help i am at wits end thanks
As far as the noise , checked the CCTL?
My 94 F2 had the stock CCTL which is only spring loaded, not a locking screw design like the newer ones. This allowed the cam chain to be really, really, slack on a cold start. The engine would sound like an old rattly diesel when it was cold, the noise mostly went away as the engine warmed up.

The newer ones do not have a locking screw design. That is aftermarket. As for the acting up it could be alot of things but I would check the compression. Also it sounds like your return cable is broken on the throttle. That would be bad if the pull cable hung open so I would replace that ASAP but that shouldnt be causing your problems. If you get a weak compression or mixed results then I would check the valves as that could cause your starting/running problems. I would also check the cctl though and make sure it isnt warn out.
Get the throttle cables fixed before you do anything else. How many miles are on the bike. It does sound like the valves need adjusted, make sure oil level is good too.
hi bike suppose to have done 8000 miles with six owners have my doubts now . will put new cables on at the weekend, and put everthing back to together, if no better what would you try nextmany thanks
'93 with 8k, unlikely unless your way up north wear its cold all the time and even then unlikly. more like 80k. Someone probably changed the gauges or disconnected the cable while they rode. I would check the compression before putting everything back together. If its compression and/or valves you dont want to have to tear it all back down when your already there.
Hi put new cables on . Turn engine over started but sounded as if,it was running on 2 clyinders. checked for spark on each plug was ok Check resistance on coils ok Bought second hand cdi unit , still the same . Try it this morning engine turns over ,but wont fire .Ihavent got a compresso tester ,but it ran great. just to double check can any one draw me , a sketch the coloured wires to the coils. really am stuck now . I would take to a dealer but at £35 a hour plus vat plus pick up really carnt afford it.
Replaced HT leads and suppressor caps which i made up myself. cleaned bowls in carbs put it all back together,.And bingo she ran and even sounded ok let it run for ten minutes .went to start it next day , it would not start gave it full choke then it gave one enormas bang. kept trying it but just bangs .took plugs out again turned engine over without plugs in , thinking i might have flooded engine.Put plugs back tried again and nothing Where do i go from here ,dont know what else to try,;please help;
