i had this problem with my f4i.. when it was cold it started and ran fine.. but as soon as it got hot and i shut it off it would not restart until it cooled down.. is that whats happening with you?
I have a simular problem, and I have the cbr 1000rr 06. I just replaced the battery, now it makes a clicking sound that comes from what looks like a relay by the battery. I put my battery charger on it to check it and it still wont start. the only way right now I can start it is to push start it.
have you checked the stator yet? You can measure the resistance across the 3 leads coming from the stator to tell if its bad. I would check it when its cold and when its warm. Im not sure what your specific resistance in ohms is suppose to be, but they should all fall in a certain range. Normally, when a rectifier goes bad, one set will be out of range. Measure across 1&2, across 2&3, and across 1&3. a call to a dealer should tell you what the correct resistance.
If that checks good. Next time the bike is warm. check to see how hot the rectifier is. If its extremly hot, its probably bad. rectifiers will get warm, but not hot. Also, check the plug on the rectifier to make sure no wires are burned. Unplug it and check the plug carefully. If any wires look burned, or the plug looks like it has been melted, replace the rectifier.
Also, another thing to consider is the possibility of the battery itself is at fault. Next time the battery starts to discharge, feel how hot the battery is, and listen closely to make sure you don't hear any sizzling sounds.
04-07 1000RR's have issues with the stator overheating and failing. Once they fail, they need to be replaced. Test it in the same manner as listed above by measuring the resistance across all 3 leads. The clicking your hearing is the relay for the starter trying to kick on the starter. The reason it is only clicking is because it does not have enough power to start. Meaning the battery does not have enough voltage, or your connections are loose. If the battery is fully charged, there must be a weak connection somewhere.
