Disadvantages of an ignition advancer
I heard that an ignition advancer can hurt the motor and possibly blow it up. Does anyone know of the disadvantages of this mod? Can this happen or is it all bull$ht.
I can't find anyone that makes one for the 600rr, but it seems like a good mod, that doesn't have any real negative affects.
P.s. anyone know's where to get one for the rr, please let me know!

so i found out where we can get something to adjust the rr's timing (and most other bikes.) It's from dynojet, and requires a PCIII along with some $$. Says in the right up that basically it is completely unnecessary unless you have the bike done up with a custom map, and have them program the timing's for you. I still want to know more about it, but have never actually met anyone who has done it.

The ignition advancer just replaces the stock one. It will advance the timming by 4 degrees. Factor pro out of Ca. has them. They cost around 40 dollars plus shipping. I noticed a big change after installing it. No you don't need a power commander with it. It felt alot better punch through out all rpm's. I will see it I can find it. I run nitrous now so I had to take it out and I run a muzzy timming control box.

Before computer-controlled ignitions on cars, the ignition could be advanced by loosening the distributor holddown bolt and turning the distributor clockwise. To make the advance come in quicker, softer springs could be subed for the heavy springs on the distributor weights. The problem back then was advancing too much and getting detonation. That could put a hole in your piston.
If your bike is running lean, or already pinging, you may not want to install the advancer. I've replaced the pulse generator on my CBR, and the pulse generator rotor was right there. So it should be easy to do and undo if needed. I heard that putting the advancer on Gixxers is a pain.
