digital gear indicator for 02 f4i
hey fellow cbr lovers , i was thinking about getting an accumen digital gear indicator for my 02 f4i. idont think they have an easy plug-in connector for my bike.i was wonderingif anyone here has one andif so are you happy with it? i regret most of my mods &hate to add another. thanks in advance for any help
My feeling on this it that if you don't know what gear you're in then you're not paying enough attention. I'll admit that the concept is nice and would be convenient. Over the years I've just made myself mentally count the gears (o.k. sometimes I count 'em out loud -- but it's just me and my helmet that hear it[8D]) and now it's just a habit. I even do it in my Jeep.
Having said that if you really want one then factory connectors are the way to go. Cutting and splicing sux and eventually corrosion will fry electrical tape connections[:-]

I disagree with chainstretcher... bikes are more and more adding this particular feature and I see it being standard on almost all bikes in the future. That being the case, I don't think someone should be talked out of getting one since they SHALL become standard (at least IMO).
Well I have to agree with chainstretcher. I was actually going to do this mod a few months back and once i got all the diagrams, what needed to be spliced, and where to run everything up to it, i didnt need it anymore cause i just got out and road around a lot. When your riding you learn your mileage and your gears very quickly, if your just learning to ride this bike than i say the mod is not worth the time, especially if you dont know electronics. Just get out there and ride, and remeber there is no 7th gear, you can tug on it all you want its not there. But if your just wanting to do it just to have it, then i say go for it, just get all the info before attempting to do it.

I thought about one, but then I thought about all the other stuff I could buy with that cash.
So what if every once in awhile I give the lever that "extra" push. It dosent hurt anything. I don't consciously count gears, but I usually know if I am in 2nd or 3rd when I need to be. I downshift when I slow at lights and its only once in awhile than I kick it down to 1st when I was expecting second.
If it gives you confidence then fine, but I really don't want anything else to look at while riding. IMHO it's just anothe doo-dad to add to a sig. So what if OEM's add it to bikes? I can still ignore it, AND it won't cost me anything.
Just ride it. Once you get to know your bike you won't need it.

I have one, andit is kinda convienient in heavy traffic, like where i am. That way you can concentrate on the road and not counting (IMO). The wiring was tedious, but wasnt bad. If you use prper material, such and the connectors/butts that have an extra plastic extension to melt over so there is not air gaps. Then wrap ends in electrical wire. Mine looked clean. But it is completely up to you. But if you dont know much about wiring, or just arent comfortable, do not even try!! LEt someone else do it
