Default Cowl Damage, any hope?

Hi Guys,
Need your opinion and help possibly. So I'm coming home from work today, we are having gusts of 40 mph+ here, I'm on my bike and getting on the highway....wind is about to knock me off the road but feels great....I pull in my driveway, get off my bike and almost go into fits because my seat cowl is missing!! So I am freaking out and pissed since I only bought this d*** thing about 2 months ago and had my bike painted to match. Anyway, so I jump into my truck and go driving down the road like a mad woman looking for my seat cowl. After 2 and a half trips around I find it on the side of the highway, damaged of course. No cracks or anything but rash on all four corners of it.

To all of you paint savvy and plastic repairing savvy members: is this fixable? if so, what do I need to get to fix it? IMO I would think the corners would be difficult to repair but I don't know. I am pretty inclined to try and fix this myself if I know what to do, or should I just take it to the bike shop and pay them to do it? I am somewhat knowledgeable about fixing all kinds of things and after reading all the posts on the forum you would think I would know exactly what to do, and if it was cracked or not damaged on the corners I probably would, but I am stuck!

Any help is greatly appreciated......

looks like it should be able to be fixed easily enough. i'm no body expert but i'd assume a good body filler should be able to fill in the chips and then sand it smooth, hit it with a good primer and repaint it, or bring it somewhere to have them respray it.

Youll have to repaint the whole thing though.

I was completely caught off guard when I hopped off my bike. I couldn't believe it, hence the several 'words' I used after I noticed. It hasn't even been taken off since it was painted and has been trailered back and forth a few times and ridden and it never flew off. Crazy......

Yeah that is wild...

What do the mounts look like for those? Was it not on securely or just a weird thing that happened... ?

Any clues as to why it happened?

[]Yeah, I just so happened to take a closer look before I put the cowl back on and saw that the hex nut that keeps the latch tight was really, really, loose. I hand tightened it and put the cowl back on and no problems. Feelings are still hurt over the cowl damage though.

You can see if there is a comparable touch up paint at Avanced Auto or something and a little filler. But if you want it done and back to new, you'll have to fill, sand and repaint.
