not sure of the fit...
but as for oil...it's the engine oil. the shaft of the pump inserts to an area just above the oil pan...and is lubricated by the oil. when you remove the pump, oil comes out, so either drain the oil or sit the bike straight up.

as for the impellar...you'll see that it has a knotch in it like this --. you need to line that up with the receving side or else it won't go on. just get a flashlight and peek in there and then just turn the shaft to match up.

tohoe im assuming when you orderd it from ebay that it said it came from the year of your bike model?
i just talked to a guy from a nearby bike shop and said that 95 and 96 water pumps are the same but the 97 and 98 are different...

i see one on ebay right now for 50 and im still hesitating!!!

ok guys i installed a used water pump from a salvage yard.... and it seems like the leak isnt completely gone....after riding for a while and letting the bike sit..it seems like i can get some coolant on my fingers wehn i touch it....

i havent investigated whether its from the weeping hole or from the gasket seal yet...

i used prestones pre mixed coolant/antifreeze stuff..for cars...but it says its silicate free so i used it

and the color is orange instead of green.... someone on this thread said not to use automotive antifreeze...

do you guys know if this is safe?

Thanks,

can you replace the seals inside the water pump instead of replacing the whole water pump ?
