Complicated 929RR Electrical Issues
Before I bought my used 929rr, I read the electrical system had some issues. At around 25,000 miles, the problems began. I've replaced the headlight relay, stator, rectifier regulator twice, and battery 3 times. This had all been in the past 2 months. I replaced the original rectifier first because my multimeter was indicated over 17 volts at 5000rpm. It ran fine for a few days after that, then the system stopped charging. I replaced the stator, then, and got about a week out of it. The first rectifier then caught on fire, so I replaced it again with a more expensive one. After I took the first test ride, it was again indicating no charge. After I turned off the bike and restarted it, I blew my low beam headlight (I had the high beams unplugged because I had been blowing bulbs and fuses). The multimeter reading was over 18 volts this time. So, after all these parts, I'm worse off than I began. I don't have much electrical experience, but I was able to change the components myself.
Before I burn any more money (or get 3rd degree burns on the *** from a rectifier fire), I was hoping someone might be able to give me some pointers. I can't find a good mechanic in this area, and all the dealers keep repeating that they "don't work on bikes over 10 years old." Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What you want to do is change away from factory parts, mainly RR because it's cause of all these problems. Ancient shunt-circuit tech that runs stator 100% full-time and overloads it and wiring causing excessive heat for stator, wiring and RR itself. Failure is certain and replacing with same parts will result in same failures agan and again.
Instead, upgrade RR to latest series-circuit that draws only as much current as needed by bike. This keeps everything cool and working long-term. Read all about series-circuit RR here and follow posts to studies linked within:
