Default Cluth problem or something else ?

Hey everyone, Im having a little/possibly big problem. I have a 96 F3 that im "restoring". Its been sitting for years. Ive gotten it to idle and it sounds smooth, although there is a slight rumble at idle. When I pull in the clutch, the rumble goes away. In addition When I kick the bike into gear, the bike shuts off. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Prior to this happening, the bike idled very high and I was able to kick it into gear without any problems. I adjusted the idle from 2000 rpm down to 1000 rpm, where it idles fine. Although I think this whole thing may be fixed via some carb adjustments. ???? Im not a bad *** bike tech, so any info would be again, greatly appreciated.

simple stuff first - you do have the sidestand up when putting it in gear? Bike won't run with sidestand down. Check the sidestand switch itself, and clutch diode possibly.

And if it's not that, the next simplest thing will be the kickstand sensor itself.

Btw, idle should be around 1250 rpm +-50 IIRC. You prolly have some carb work (cleaning and syncing) in your immediate future if you're idling at 1k

sweet thanks. I didnt know that the idle was supposed to be at 1200 +/- 50. Ill adjust accordingly. I actually cleaned the carbs out already. So far Ive cleaned out all the rust from my gas tank, replaced the fuel filters (in the tank, and the inline filter), replaced the fuel pump, changed the oil and filter, changed the spark plugs, and changed the air filter. The bike was sitting for about 6 years. My next step after I get the carbs synced, is replace the chain and sprockets (the chain is rusted and worn). buy a good set of tires, and then some other things. Im looking forward to when its all finished.
