Clutch question
Hey you guys, hows it going?
today i have a quick question for anyone.
i ride a 98 scbr600f3 everything runs great and all but there is one problem. when i go in to shift gears i push the gears up and they seem to not want to lock into gear. i have to kick the peg down to get it to lock in. It gets really anoying and i dont the exact problem but anykind of help would be awesome.
thanks.

Did the bike crash? or did this just start happening?
check your external linkage on the shifter to make sure its not bent or loose. Also, there is splined shaft that comes out of the engine, there is an arm that attaches to that that matches up with the splines on the shaft. Make sure its not loose or stripped out.
Inside the transmission, there are shift forks. A bent shift fork may be the cause. I hope it isnt, because its a bear on that bike. You have to split the case in order to get to the transmission.
If all checks out ok externally. I would suggest trying a clutchless upshift. You can shift your bike without the clutch once its moving. While your accelerating, let off the gas just a little, while maintain throttle, then shift. If it shifts ok like this. I would suspect a problem in the clutch somewhere. If it doesnt, I would suspect a transmission problem.
