Default clutch question

i've never tampered w/ the clutch on my bike, but i'll need a new clutch by summer.

i used to have a quad ('04 yfz450) and i changed the clutch on that numerous times w/ ease. is the clutch on the bike basically the same? when i pop the cover off, am i just pulling out the bolts/springs, the plates.......then soaking new ones in oil and placing them back in order and putting the bolts/springs in?

i dont want to take it to a shop if its as simple as the clutch on my quad was. thanks in advance guys.

(oh, the bike is a '01 F4i)

how many mile do you have on that bike?! What kind of duty does it pull?!

basically, it's the same. soak the fibers in oil, install in sequence, torque to spec.

knightslugger : thanks man, the bike has 19k on it now (much much more by the time summer rolls around). the clutch is slipping slightly now. the bike gets a decent work out in the summer, but now in the cold temps i just cruise on it.

spirit : much appreciated! nice find.

thanks guys!

DO NOT USE BARNETT CLUTCH PACKS.

Taken from this thread on another board. http://www.fireblades.org/forums/hon...-vs-stock.html

"The biggest problem with the Barnett units is they don't use the exact cut dimensions as the OEM plates so there is always some slop between the fingers and the basket slots. After several hard launches, the fingers wear grooves into the basket and then the plates start to hang up rather than slide through their normal travel. Barnett also uses an assortment of materials for their plates and none of it is as heavy duty as the OEM product.

I have seen several clutch baskets ruined from using Barnett plates and believe me, you don't want to pay to replace a basket every 2000 miles."

It's fine if you're not a ham-fisted dragster:

ORIGINAL: demonchild

thirdgen, you would hate hearing me take off from a stop. its like a drag launch everytime. I replace most of the clutch pack every oil change.
