cluster light problem
Hello guys I have a problem with my cluster lights and can't seem to find any info anywhere, the signal lights stay on and also the high beam but they work on the bike just not on the cluster. bad earth maybe? any help would be really appreciated. Regards Mark
I have still got this problem!! i know its a bit of a cheek coming on here and expecting help straight away. I have gone through the wiring loom/harness checked and cleaned up what I can see/get to. is it possible that the dash unit is in need of replacement? its driving me mental at the moment. the next step is selling it as I can't really ride it as I don't know if my signals are cancelled or not.
since the display on the cluster for your bike is a multi-function LCD there's no real way to test it externally - but you should be able to determine if the problem is in the cluster or in the wiring.
in the cluster wiring harness, the green wire is ground, and is the only ground wire for the cluster, so the other lights wouldn't work if the ground were bad. Since your problem is lights illuminated when they shouldn't be, that's kinda steers me away from that as well.
in the harness the following wires correspond to the following functions:
Orange = Left turn indicator
Light Blue = Right turn indicator
Blue = High Beam indicator
If you unplug the harness from your cluster, and activate the highbeam, and each blinker, you should see 12v+ on each of those leads, but only when that function is activated.
So - with the low beam on, and no blinkers on, you should not see 12V+ on any of those 3 leads.
If you do - then there's a wiring issue - but those circuits don't really interface with each other anywhere, so it would likely be a damaged wiring issue, and shouldn't be hard to find.
Otherwise - if there's no voltage on those leads, then you know your problem is in the gauge cluster itself. A good electronics repair person might be able to investigate the PCB to see if there's some issue that is causing that circuit to see 12v+ from elsewhere on the circuit board. If you weren't in England, I'd offer to have you ship it to me and let me go through it in a night and see if I can find the issue.

Thanks for the reply , its the same sort of route I have been going down . its just nice to know im on the right sort of track. I think I'll strip the bike down even more to expose all the harness and take it from there. thanks again, Mark
