Cleaning a chain

RE: Cleaning a chain
I'm the official chain cleaner/luber at our house. Here's what works for me:
Put the bike up on the rear stands (we have pitbull stands). I get the nifty Spray Chain Cleaner and Chain Lube from Cycle Gear (yeah, I've heard of people using WD40, but I'm kinda finicky about this... I'd rather use a product specifically for that purpose). We keep a pile of those little white cotton shop towels on hand, and with a bit of elbow grease, I just manually clean the chain by rubbing it link by link (spinning the tire to get the chain to advance). I go over it at least twice to get allllll the road grime off of it, then give the chain a good spraydown with the lube (using the little straw/nozzle to get it down in there, but keep overspray off the brakes, etc...). Then leave it up on the stands with a towel on the floor below the chain to soak up any drips. We leave it there for a good 24 hours to let the lubs work down into the chain.
