Chugging engine
Hi all. Recently my bike has started 'chugging' when I am driving it. This is like a sort of jerking when I am accelerating or slowing down. It is more pronounced when there is more stress on the engine e.g. if I am carrying a pillion. It has gotten steadily worse over the last couple of days. I think it is an engine issue as if I engage the clutch and let the bike freewheel it disappears. Anyone ever experienced anything like this or can shed some light on what the problem might be? I like to have an idea of what might be wrong before I bring it to a shop. Thanks in advance
what bike is it?
It could be any number of things. Carburated bike, could be dirty carbs, un-synced carbs, improperly adjusted. Injected bike could be the FPR, the fuel pump, or any number of other sensors..
But, before you do any of that. Does the engine sound like its bogging? or is it just jerking and the engine sound normal?
My first step would be to make sure the chain is adjusted properly. A loose chain will make the bike chug and jerk.

Sorry squid, I should have posted the year/model etc.
It's a 1998 CBR600F, UK model. Carburated bike (if only I could afford one with luxuries like sensors, lol).
I was out today trying to get as much info on the problem as possible. The chugging/jerking is worst when I have the throttle opened a certain amount. It is defo an engine issue. Chain is perfect so it's not that. I don't know a while lot about how the carb issues you mentioned could affect performance so it could possibly be that.
Engine is bogging when this is happening so that's what makes me think that it's an engine issue.
It looks like I'll have to take it to the shop but with little money and insurance coming up at the end of next month I see very little socialising in the immediate future for me.
Ah well, the joys of biking!
