there's this other link where the guy used the tire levers and took off and mounted the tires himself with it instead of using the machine. he did a whole walk through but i can't find it.

Just bring it to a shop and have them do it. Lets not forget you have to balance them after you mount them as well which if you don't have a mounting machine I'm sure you don't have a balancer. Its really not that expensive to have it all done. Better to pay a little now then a lot later when it causes you to wipe out.

Shops are a ripoff -- around here they want $50 a pop with the wheel already off the bike. Unless you buy their tires of course. And those are only about $200 a set more than you get them for on the net.
Bike tires are easy to change and balance but ya gotta know what you're doing. It's a wise idea to have a knowledgeable person help you the first couple of times. I gots over 100,000 miles on self changed bike tires with zero problems -- saved thousands in stealership fees = more $$ for tires
