Default changing tire

I am gonna change my back tire here soon but don't have one of those stands. Can someone recommend me on how to do this or should I just take it to the shop and let them do it. I was thinking of using a jack stand but don't know if I could or not.

If you are like me I would not trust a jack, I would get a stand. You can find one on ebay for cheap.

get a stand for 100 bucks, front and back...and make up for lost bling in like 2 tire changes.
dealer will charge you tons to take the tire off, mount/balance and re-install.

get the stand or borrow someone's stand.

I bought the pit bull stand for the rear but don't have anything for the front. The rear stand I bought was $115 and is very easy to use, even with one person.

Before I had the stand I picked up a nail in the rear tire and took it to the dealership to get the tire changed. All tolled it was $230 for the new tire, including the tire, mounting and balancing, as well as a chain adjustment. Depending on your inclination to want to do your own repairs and service you might consider just letting the dealership do it.

I did this when I changed my sprocket. Just get 2 small jack STANDS and set them under both sides of the swingarm. then put a block in front and behind the front wheel so it wont roll. it worked perfect for me and the bike was setting overnight like that too so.

Whatever you feel is safe man.

checkout Ebay and motorcycletoystore.com and get a pitbull or simular rear stand. i just changed my rear tire yesterday, cost me 22bucks. when i took my little Xr250 to get the tires changed out i brought the bike in and the dealer charged my like 175 bucks (not including what i paid for the tires). yesterday I paid 22 bucks cuase i just brought in the new tire and the wheel.
IF you go with the jackstand plan try this. get some high tensil strength chain (rated to about 1.5 times your bike's weight) jack up the bike with someone holding it, run the chain through the frame (like under the seat) and run the chain through a bottomcord in your garage (or if there is no bottom cords in the area a rafter will do just fine) but with the money you're spending on that go ahead and buy a rear stand, it works great in the long run for all types of maintnance.

I'm glad it worked out for you but I wouldn't recommend it -- just too easy for the bike to tip over. Stands can be had for cheap and provide a much more stable working environment.

yea i have a pitbull rear and will eventually get the front t stand. i also drilled my swingarm for spools so its super stable on there

i also have a set of the cfm stands for 100 bux which work well. its just a normal fork mount stand though so its pretty much just good for tire changes but not headstock work or fork related crap

I dont have any spools on the back, I didnt know if you needed to have these or not to use the stand. I just used what I had and I knew it wasnt going to tip over because it was in a completely sealed 2 car garage with no kids allowed.
