Default Changing Throttle Cable?

I am trying to change my throttle cable on my 98 cbr900. Just wondering if anyone has some simple steps to do this!
Thanks

It's, mechanically, fairly "visually" self explanitory. Take apart till you can remove the cable, put back together in reverse.

Just be sure to note how the cable is run through the bike, before you pull it out to replace it. Routing, to avoid bind/fraying, is pretty important.

Also, make note of the 'take-up' adjustment on each cable, so you can get the proper slack adjustment on the new cables, after installing them.

You can do a lot of work/adjustment to replacements parts, etc., without a manual, if you remember to observe the slack, etc. of the part you are replacing. Sounds obvious, but it's often forgotten. If it worked before, it'll work again. ;-)

Ok, sounds kinda mean, not giving at least a rudiment of procedure, so here's how it goes on a 98CBR600F3 (which I have and know for sure how to do....
Pull the gas tank, air-box cover/filter/air-box. Immediately stuff paper-towel in the air-intakes. to prevent that "Ohh, shoot!" moment. N

ow, finally, you're looking at the throttle linkages. Here's where/when you take a pic with your cell phone to show the cable-routing, for when you put the new one back in. Then grab the throttle and twist it just enough to see how much slack each cable has built-in. Got that picture in your head?

Now, you can loosen the adjuster nuts and back all of the tension off the cables at the throttle linkages.

Go up to the right clip-on now and loosen the throttle housing adjuster nuts and remove the screws that hold the housing together. Remove the cable/s and replace with new. re-assemble housing on the bar. Check your pic and route new cable back through to the linkages. Re-attach and adjust.

Put airbox back on, REMOVE paper towels from the stacks! (Other-wise the bike will run like crap and die on you, don't ask how I KNOW this will result). re-install filter and cover. Gas tank and hoses, done.

The 900 may be slightly different (waiting for a comment from one of the 900 folks to chime in here). That is a fairly comprehensive detailing of the procedure, fudged a bit on the actual mechanics of the physical hook-up but that should get you to that point in the job and back. The rest is in the "should be obvious what to do" part of my initial comment.

Hope this helps, Ern

Hey Ern,

I'm not sure if the F3 is like the F4i, but on the off chance it is...

The cable runs from the throttle to the carbs/piston/engine stuff. Now, when I look at the F4i it looks like there is some kind of assembly where the cable connects at the engine side, and then from that assembly the cable runs under the engine to somewhere I can't see even with the bike stripped down as it is.

If I mess with the assembly at the engine side, will that disconnect the cable from the throttle, or do I need to somehow get under the engine?

Sorry, it's just been tough for me to see and it's even harder to explain when I'm not sure exactly what I'm talking about I could snap some pics, if that helps? I'm just trying to reconnect the elbow the throttle cable reconnects to at the grip side (cause I was stupid and backed it all the way out messing with it) and the only way that I'll seem to have enough slack to screw the elbow piece back into the grip is by disconnecting the cable.

Sorry, F4i's are beyond the scope of my experience. I've never owned a fuel-injected bike. (still in the stone-age, i guess). You'll have to wait on a more updated, experienced hand to notice your plight on those.
