Yeah to my knowledge it only is for sending the signal to the plugs that governs how much spark to produce. I know on my 99 f4 there is a sensor the the cdi box sends a signal to and recently that sensor came loose and my bike turned off while riding. We screwed the sensor back into place and the bike fired up fine!
