Default CBR929RR has small oil leak from the stator cover

I just bought my 2000 CBR929RR last Saturday. I checked underneath it when I bought it and there was no signs of any leaks, but I got home and realized it is leaking a bit of oil from the stator cover.

The guy I bought it from had two 929's. This one that he had let a friend use and another one that he rode. The one he rode had a scratched up stator cover and the one I bought had a good condition stator cover when he had originally bought it, so he swapped them. So mine has some scratches on the stator cover but doesn't appear to be cracked anywhere.

As far as I know, my bike has never been dropped/crashed, so I think it would just be leaking from the gasket. I can feel oil around the outside of the gasket.

I have ordered a new gasket and am just waiting for it to come in. So my questions are, do you guys think it would just be leaking from the gasket, is there anything I need to be really careful about when taking off the stator cover (anything prone to breaking or falling out of place), and is there any other reason that oil would be leaking other than a cracked cover or the gasket needing to be replaced?

Nope. If the covers cracked, should be fairly obvious. Change gasket, probably torn or missing all together.

Comes off easy but there's a bunch of magnet force there so watch your fingers. One of the starter gear pins usually comes out with it but it's clear where it goes. Going back is (slightly) harder because the magnet force pulls and pushes it around till you get it lined up. Watch your fingers again. Lol.

It comes off easy. If you can tilt your bike to the right, you won't lose too much oil.

The thing to look at is the engine case where the cover attaches. When these bikes go over on the left side, the case can crack or break. It's usually obvious if a repair has been attempted...

Okay, thank-you for the info ....I'm really hoping it isn't the engine case. The bike is in really good shape and has now obvious signs that it has ever been down. I just ordered the gasket a couple days ago, so it probably won't be in until some time next week.
