Cool Coolant leak stator cover

I could figure this out myself, but; Conrice why don't you help me with this one. I thought the small leak was coming from the drain plug on the water pump because I didnt replace the crush washer; well, replaced washer, and, still leaking. I took off plastics wiped down everything. Looks like the leak is coming from the two lower stator cover bolts, also near the shift lever close to the water pump. Dont, think im lazy for asking for help; I spent the last few days doing EVERY service on my mother-in-laws car. While doing the timing belt, my POS Chinese made Craftsman impact wouldnt do the job removing the crank pulley bolt, I used the starter to crank the bolt loose(you could find procedure on YouTube) and hit my leg like a basebal bat; dont ask, i feel stupid enough. Thanks for help in advance.

You need to confirm the location of the leak. My water pump was leaking and it appeared to be coming from the cover. After replacing the gasket and riding it this past summer I noticed it was leaking again. I determined this time it was leaking from the weep hole. This means the internal seal in the pump is bad and the water pump needs replaced. If you look at the pump from the bottom you will see the weep hole on the shaft where the pump connects to the motor.

Cool

I believe you maybe right. I did notice some on the weep hole, I just dont want to admit it to myself. It cost around $200 to replace, I believe. I hate to buy used parts like water pumps, but this time I may.

I sprayed brake cleaner on all wet parts to dry them, squeezed the hoses, after listening to the bearings with a stethoscope, and my final conclusion is: leaking from the hose connections, upper and lower; hence, the coolant on the stator cover bolts. To fix, I will replace hoses, and clean the surface of water pump of any imperfections. When everything was dryed with the brake cleaner I could literally see the flow of the coolant.

Leaking from the weep hole doesn't necessarily mean you need to replace the seal. If it's leaking from the weep hole while running, then yes, if it "WEEPS" at little after shutdown, then maybe not. If the engine gets really hot, the coolant can boil after shutdown and leak past the internal seal, it's designed that way, so it doesn't leak into the engine case. If it's spewing coolant, then it's a bad seal. Don't take my word for it, i'm not a mechanic, but there's a weep hole for a reason.

My buell weeps coolant from the water pump weep hole, but only after shutdown and in the summer months. It's just enough to leave a white trail. Coolant in the heads is boiling from the rise in temperature upon shutting off the motor.

ya it's not the stator cover. no coolant there - just oil. i'd try another water pump all together since you can find them all over ebay (that do work) for relatively cheap.

looks like you guys already figured out the problem.

coolant should not come out of the weep hole at any time. if it is, replace the pump. it is there to give the coolant some place to go when the seal goes bad other than through the outer bearing, leading to more damage.
