so I got this cbr 600 f4i. its a 2003. my first super sport. I ride to my school with my buddy every day. The RPM guage will calibrate or do its thing when you turn key to ignition. But it does not function when the bike starts up. No matter what you rev it to it stays at Zero. There is a black wire behind the gauge. It's grounded to the frame but is torn could this be a problem? if so, where does this need to go?

I also have an FI light that comes on sometimes. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not. when it comes on it, it stays on. No flashes, just solid color.

another issue I'm not worried about is that when speeding off in second gear itll drop to neutral. It happens rarely. I had a ninja that had a common problem where in high RPM it would do just that.

one more thing is my fuel res meter seems to not want to go away no matter if I am full of gas or not... Only when i reconnect and disconnect battery it goes away only to come back soon

 

forgot to mention that there is a connector near the ECU that seems to be missing something. I think that might be what they call the "RPM retriever sensor"? The bike is from some junkie redneck who was attempting to make it a stunt bike. Why? i couldn't say

 

Start with a shop manual of some sort for the electrical connectors. I had lots of problems in 2nd also until I used my foot properly. Fuel reserves and FI light can be addressed after you get those other things sorted.

so I cant seem to find much on this... I cant find the wire either. ill test the rpm wires. I hope it's not the ecu, but it's probably it.


I found a tach sending unit on ebay for 20$. So I'm checking to see if it's for my F4i. the guy says it comes from an F4i but doesn't seem right cause I don't see it in my wiring manual and owners manual
