Default cbr 600fs 2002 idle problem...

Hi folks,

I have a 2002 cbr 600fs, i have a problem that has just arisen with the bike at idle tickover, it has started to hunt slightly maybe just 100 rpm+-....

I had a power commander fitted a week ago and before this was done i had the bike idle set about 1300rpm, after i got it back from the commander being fitted and set up i noticed the idle was set at 1000rpm but wasn't hunting, however i had the bike out yesterday for a run which we covered 250miles, after getting back home i noticed the idle hunting, i then tried to adjust the revs up a bit with the adjuster, i turned it a bit clockwise and there was no change until i revved the bike and the revs came down and stuck about 2500 revs then slowly dropped back to 1000rpm. The last time i adjusted the idle it could be set no problem, i never have the bike out in rain etc so don't think the adjuster has rusted, could this problem have anything to do with the commander. the bike rides perfectly with no flat spots or misses etc and the engine has not cut out at idle although when you come to a stop at a junction when the revs come down to idle it sounds like it is going to cut out but doesn't, the other thing i noticed now is that when i brake semi hard the rev counter needle bounces to zero and then acts a bit erratic for a few seconds

i would appreciate any advice on this issue, thanks Ian

Sounds like all your problems started after fitting the commander, but as I don't know what a commander is I can't comment on whether it is definitely the fault. If it is not a big job to go back to what you had before having the commander fitted I'd try that and see if the idle speed goes back to normal. Keep us informed!

Yes was about to disconnect the power commander but decided to take it back to dyne tune place that fitted it, after plugging there laptop into the power commander this showed that the commander had lost the map installed. We also noticed that the negative for the battery had come loose however the garage are still unsure wether this has caused the commander to loose its map as the power commander website states that the disconnection of the battery should not cause it to reset. As soon as the map was re installed bike was back to normal.
