cbr 600 f4 overheating
Hi guys, i have a 99 600 f4. sometimes in heavy traffic, slow speeds, overheats blowing out the coolant. the temp gauge is reading 2/3,but not in the red, not sure if the fan is coming on while moving slow in traffic. once when i turned the motor off, the fan did come on. does anyone else have this problem.
The coolant overflowing doesn't sound good... but up about 2/3 the way when sitting in traffic is no big deal. My temp guage is digital, and I saw 222 degrees while I was stuck waiting for a crash to clear up yesterday... and the outside temp was about 34 degree's. (When I was moving, average temp was about 163... so that's a 59 degree difference!)
Make sure you aren't overfilling the coolant and, though I don't know how you do it on a bike, only on cars, make sure there's not any air trapped in the system. Oh, and make sure you've got the correct anti-freeze to water mixture.

You dont fill the reservoir all the way to the top. Theres a min and max line which is ironcly near the bottem of the reservoir.
If it has boiled some out, and you've not put any more in, and NOW it's at the max level... then you had too much coolant in the system and it boiled out the extra, and you should be good now.
if you have proper level of coolant in there and it's blowing out still, then your problem is lack of pressure in your cooling system causing the coolant to boil at much lower temps than what it's supposed to.
this is why your gauge only reads 2/3 the way.
i'd check the radiator cap.
