I have a 1992 f2 with bad piston rings and other stuff so I am replacing the engine. My question is can I put a 1998 f3 motor in that frame without modifications?

 

Yes its is a direct swap.

I did a lot of reading on this and read through the cbrworld.net list of interchangeable parts but I have a few questions. First, the f3 has a fuel pump so what will that intail switching out, have the f2 tank, if anything? Also will the f2 airbox work or do I have to get an f3? Finally the speedo on a f3 is in the tranny right and not on the front wheel so will I have to mod the wiring, gauges or get a new set of f3 gauges? I am new to bikes so bare with me. I will have a bike mechanic help me with the swap but just wanted some info just in case.

 

If you use the F3 motor in the F2 just use your F2 carbs. Then you will not need the fuel pump. Heck you can get rid of the fuel pump on an f3 is you get f2 carbs and a f2 petcock.

 

You can't use the f2 carbs because they won't fit. If I get a f3 petcock will that work?

 

You sure they won't? I was under the impression they did work. You can't switch airbox's but I thought the carbs were interchangable.

 

I read todaythat they are but that youcannot use the ram air that the f3 has. Thats what I plan on doing now. So if I don't switch carbs though I have to get the f3 air box? Also the rest of the parts that I need are wiring harness with ecu, f3 or f4i gauge cluster, pekcock assembly and thats all right?

 

anybody else chime in. I'm going to the honda dealership before I go get parts so hope they can answer my questions.
