Default Cam chain tensioner

I have already changed the cam chain tensioner on my CBR600F4 (automatic one) but I was told that it will go again in a few thousands miles. Has any of you guys fitted a manual one? and if so, how do you know when to adjust it? Is there a risk of overtightening, or is there any other way of knowing when to adjust it and by how much?
Cheers

I'm not positive (as i was told by several dealers) that there was a recall on the older model CCT's. I think it was up to '03 or '04 but supposedly, the new ones work fine. I have over 6k on my oem one and no noises of any kind. Your new one should be fine.
If the stories I heard are BS, then APE seems to make a good one. You tighten it until you hear the chain making noise, then you back it off a little. If it's over tightened, it'll make a lot of noise and wear out the delrin chain slider.

Thanks dwhite645, hope the new tensioner lasts, 1500 miles since it's been fitted and so far so good. Will keep you posted.
