About the only thing you can do is get an easy out. It requires you drill a hole and then insert the easy out intothe hole. The easy out has flutes that dig into the sides of the drilled hole, it grabs it and then it rotates the broken thermo unit out.

Be careful not to drill all the way through. You dont want metal shavings in your coolant. It will play havoc on your water pump and could clog a few of your radiator passages. If you want to be extra careful. You can add some grease to the drill bit. If you do go through, the grease will catch the shavings. this may not catch all the shavings though, so its still wise to be careful not to drill through. If you drill slow enough, you will feel the drilling getting easier and you will know to stop as thats the point that the drill bit is about to break through the other side. remember to re-apply the grease often. the heat from the drilling will liquify the grease and it wont work as well.

If its not broken off flush and a little is still sticking above the heads surface. you can try vise grips.

either way, a good soaking of penetrating oil is a good idea. Let it soak overnight.

get an easy out
+1. But there are several styles/sizes of 'easy out', don't go borrow the first one you can find. Also, Would heat help a little or is that a bad idea given where you'd have to apply it? Good luck
