Yeah the sensor is set to a certain psi. Its a normally open switch. When the pressure falls below that preset psi, the switch closes and turns the indicator on.
Oil pressure id made when the crank or cam (engine specific) spin the oil pump. So with the engine off, oil pump NOT pumping your oil pressure is null.
If this light / indicator ever turns on when your riding, pull the clutch and turn the bike off and coast to a stop. DON'T EVEN TRY TO MAKE IT HOME, just get to the shoulder coasting.
