Default Bar end weight attachment ?????

I have a 1996 CBR1000F with the stock bars and I have to replace the piece that fits in the bar to attach the weight to. Has anyone done this? I purchased the bike used and it had been dropped and this piece in the bar has broken. I have all the parts, I have already spent way to much time trying to install it.
Any serious advice on this install will be greatly appreciated.

Lubricate it with WD-40 or similar prior to removal.

Thank for the diagram, but the installation procedure is the question, IE., how do you get that assembly in the bar, the rubber grommet with the metal clip around it has to be compressed to fit. It looks simple, but I can assure you it is not. I have 30+ years mechanical experience and this on has me baffled. The hole is about 2mm smaller than assembly/retainer clip.

Why not just put a new set of clipons on the bike if you're having so much trouble with the bar end weight? They don't have weights in them.
