Applying Decals, again
Finally! All my body work is out of the shop and my OEM Honda decals are sitting here, waiting to be applied. I asked this same question months ago. I asked the questions then, and now I am confused by the answers. I am told I can "float" the decal into the correct position, by using soapy water. Ok, how much soap to water? Another answer I read, is that you soak the decals in water, butdon't peel the backing off of the decal, until the decal is positioned. Well, how do you so that? I have every decal there is, from Honda, to apply to my yellow F4, '99. I don't want to screw this up $. All advice appreciated! I am as nervious as a wh**e in church, to do this without screwing up.
Hey man. I have never used the soapy water trick. I just usually eye it
and have someone else spot it from a distance. If you want to do the
soapy water trick, you can use a spray bottle, and put a little soap in
there, fill it with water and shake it up. Spray the area with quite a
bit of it, and then put it on. DO NOT press it on though, because it
may push the water out. Just gentlely put it on. I wouldnt soak it in
water though because some soap will break down the adhesive. I dont
know if that is suck a good idea. Good Luck

I used water/soap mix. To install my decal stripes on my old SVT focus. I usually use soapy water when doing a large decal. Another tip that I've learned to decals is if you're uncertain about being straight. Measure and use masking tape to level everything up on the bottom of your decal before you put it on. Plus you can step back and see if the tape is straight before you put your decals on. Also decals are like window tint. If you use soapy water don't ride the bike for about a day after putting decals on. When you use water it takes longer for the adhesives to dry. If their not dry they'll blow off. When you put them on dry there's no worries. But water makes it easier to get air bubbles out if there are any under the decals. Putting decals on is kinda' mind over matter. It's not hard by any means. It's just they can be a pain sometimes. Maybe for practice you can buy some bumper stickers
? Any stickers really. Then you can get a feel for it. If you use soapy water... When I tint windows... I put just enough soap to make my fingers slip against each other when I spray them. You don't need very much soap. Well. I hope some of this was helpful.
