Another rusty tank ?
Hey guys and gals, newbie at this bike stuff, but i have a 2002 f4i with 16k and the tank is really rusty. I have read some of the forums and bb's dont seem like the route i want to go. Looks like evapo-rust(thanks raiden) or something similiar will do the trick. My question does anyone have experience in sealing the tank and also, should i replace the fuel components? (pump, filter, lines and etc...???) thanks

a really good way to get the rust out is to...
1: fill a 5 gallon bucket with water and mix in a couple cups of washing soda
2: take a threaded 1/4 in steel rod, make some sort of cap, the cap from a spray can works great, that will fit over the gas cap, and bend the rod so that it goes into the tank without touching any of the sides
3: fill the tank with the water/washing soda mix
4: place the rod/cap into the tank
5: hook the positive clip from a battery charger to the steel rod, and the negative to anywhere else on the tank.
6: let it sit for a few days and clean the rod a couple times each day, bench grinder works well.
doing that will get most of the rust out, but there will still be some in there, go to an automotive store and get a bottle of 'naval jelly' and that will get the rest out
as for sealing the tank, theres various ways to do it, 'red coat' is a product that works well, comes in a small paint can.
heres a decent picture for reference
