Hey guys, just picked up a 01 f4i with 20k miles on it, and has been sitting for 6 years. It had gasoline in it but unfortunatly all of the tank is rusted. My plan is to hotwire the pump to see if it works and if it does im wondering if its ok to put it back in the tank and acid bath it, i've purchased some yamalube stuff and took the wrapper off to read the directions, so im intent on using it. Thanks for any help.

 

Sounds like gas was added after rusting.

Clean the tank w/o pump installed. Otherwise, you're good to go.

 

thanks, any advice on derusting the pump assembly, if it works?
i've used some sort of rust remover/primer for vehicle bodies that turns
the rust black. i really am trying to get away without spending 400 dollars for
a new pump/filter, etc. or 200 used on ebay and no idea if it works.

also does anyone know of any cheap test tank? the tank is holding me back on seeing if this bike runs good at the moment, i hear it ran great before it sat, ran a little rich so im expecting alot of carbon.
